Rebrand checklist for B2B companies

Rebrand checklist for B2B companies, phase by phase.

A B2B rebrand checklist has six phases: decide why, audit what exists, name what to keep, build the new system, roll it out everywhere at once, and update what AI tools read after launch. Most failed rebrands skip the first and the last. Here is the full list I use, with real cases. Built for CEOs, founders and marketing leads at B2B tech companies.

01 What you get

Before you start: five questions.

If you cannot answer these in a sentence each, start with a strategy session, not a logo.

  • Why now, in one business sentence?
  • What must the new brand make people believe?
  • What do buyers already recognise and like?
  • Who signs off, and by when?
  • What must be live on launch day, and what can follow?
Checklist

The B2B rebrand checklist, in six phases.

Copy it into your project tool. Each phase has to be done before the next one starts.

Phase 1

Decide

Refresh or rebrand? Write the business reason in one sentence: new market, merger, new name, or a brand that no longer fits. Read refresh vs rebrand.

Phase 2

Audit

List what buyers, partners and AI tools say about you today. Collect every asset: logos, decks, docs, signatures, product UI, social. Try AI Mirror for the AI part.

Phase 3

Keep

Name the equity worth keeping: a colour, a shape, the name, a line people repeat. Recruitsome kept its logo.

Phase 4

Build

Position, mark, system, voice, templates. Test at 16 px, in dark UI, on a slide and a trade-show wall.

Phase 5

Roll out

Website, domains and redirects, email signatures, decks, product UI and app icons, social profiles, legal and sales documents, partner kits.

Phase 6

After launch

Update Google Business Profile, directories, llms.txt and the facts AI tools read. Brief the team. Check what AI says a month later.

Mistakes

Where B2B rebrands usually go wrong.

From 250+ brands, these are the ones I see most.

  • Changing the logo when the problem was the positioning
  • Throwing away equity people already recognise
  • Launching the site while decks and signatures still show the old brand
  • Forgetting redirects and losing search traffic
  • Leaving old descriptions everywhere AI tools read them
  • No templates, so the team rebuilds the old look by habit

Questions

Straight answers.

How long does a B2B rebrand take?

The new brand itself 14-21 days. Rollout depends on how many assets you have; the checklist above tells you.

Should we keep our logo?

Keep what people recognise if it still fits. Recruitsome kept its logo and gained a full system around it.

How do I tell customers about a rebrand?

Tell them why in one sentence, show the new brand on the same day everywhere, and keep the old name visible in search for a while.

What about SEO during a rebrand?

Redirect every old URL, keep page titles meaningful and update your business profiles. See SEO and AI search.

Can you do only part of the checklist?

Yes. Some clients need only phases 2-4. Ask on a 15-minute call.
