Step 1
Hire a designer for the base
A logo, colours, type, voice and a few ready designs. This is a project, not a hire.
Your team can handle most daily design alone, if the brand is set up well. Some jobs need a designer.
Free: your brand in 3 real designs, in 48 hours.
Your team can do posts, banners, signatures, one-pagers and most decks alone, as long as the designs and rules are set up. Keep a designer for strategy, a new identity, a website and packaging.
The test is simple: if the work repeats and the layout exists, do it in house. If it is new and needs a fresh idea, hire a designer.
Most of the list is a yes. The last four are where a designer is worth it.
| Job | In house? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Social posts | Yes | The layout repeats. Change words and photo. |
| LinkedIn banners for the team | Yes | One design, a new name each time. See LinkedIn banner sizes. |
| Email signatures | Yes | Same layout for all. See company email signature. |
| Sales and pitch decks | Yes, from a template | The story is yours. The slides follow the brand. |
| One-pagers and documents | Yes, from a template | Fixed layout, new text. |
| Short videos | Yes, from a design | Type a line, pick a design. |
| Brand strategy and position | Hire a designer or strategist | Needs outside eyes and craft. |
| New logo or rebrand | Hire a designer | A design project, not a daily job. |
| Website | Hire a designer | Many choices, many pages. |
| Packaging and print | Hire a designer | Technical files and printers. |

Ask these about any job. Four yeses means do it yourself.
For the job: [name it] 1. Have we made this kind of thing before? 2. Does a good layout for it already exist in our brand? 3. Can a non-designer finish it by changing words and a photo? 4. Is a small mistake easy to fix after it goes out? 5. Does it follow the brand rules without new decisions? 4 or 5 yes: do it ourselves, from the ready design. 2 or 3 yes: do it ourselves, but have one person check. 0 or 1 yes: ask a designer.
If question 2 is "no" for most jobs, you have a setup gap, not a skills gap. Fix it once, and the team stops waiting. Read brand asset management for small teams.

Answer a few short questions. You get your brand score and the top thing to fix. It is free and runs right here.
Most people do not want to learn design. They want slides that look right.
A blank slide is the problem. You stare at it, copy an old deck, and the fonts and colours drift.
Five habits fix most decks: one idea per slide, big words, the same layout for the same kind of slide, one accent colour and real numbers. Put them in a template and you do not need to remember them.
Read the on-brand sales deck template and the company PowerPoint template guide.
In a Brand OS Portal, Pitch Deck Builder skips the blank page. You tell it your story and get the slides, one by one, in your brand. For a big investor or launch deck, a designer is still worth it: see pitch deck design.
Leave your email. I design them by hand and send them to you within 48 hours. It costs you nothing.
I write to you from [email protected]. If you do not see it, check spam.
Many teams ask this. Here is a plain path.
Step 1
A logo, colours, type, voice and a few ready designs. This is a project, not a hire.
Step 2
A page or portal with files, rules and designs. See brand portal.
Step 3
Post, banner, signature, deck. Words and photo open, brand locked.
Step 4
A launch, a new product, a refresh. Not for edits.
Doing it in house is fine. These mistakes are the usual cause of off-brand work.
The fix is the same each time: fewer choices, locked designs, one home. Learn how in what to include in brand guidelines and how to reduce design requests.

I made short videos of the tools. Hear me explain them, then scroll through every one at work. Real tools, on a real brand.

Posts, banners, signatures, one-pagers and decks, when the layouts are ready and the brand parts are locked. The words and photo change.
A logo, a brand strategy, a website and packaging. These need craft and many choices.
Use one template, one idea per slide, big words and one accent colour. Or use a builder that makes slides in your brand from your story.
They hire a designer once for the base brand, put it in one place, and let the team make daily work from ready designs.
Usually the templates are too open, old files are around, or nobody owns the rules. Lock the brand parts and keep one home.
