Logo clear space generator.

Add your logo, pick a rule and download the guide. It is free, and your file stays with you.

Your team should not need to ask for the logo.

This tool draws one rule. Brand OS Portal keeps your whole brand in one place, with Logo Studio, so your team always gets the right logo and the right file.

What is logo clear space?

Logo clear space is the empty area you keep around a logo, so nothing crowds it. A simple rule is to keep a gap the height of one letter from the logo, on all four sides.

People also call it the safe zone, the exclusion zone or the logo margin. It is one line in your brand guidelines, and it saves a lot of bad layouts.

How to use this tool

  1. Add your logo. Use an SVG if you have one. A PNG works too.
  2. Pick a rule. Height of a letter or a percent.
  3. Pick the letter. Click it in the picture. The tool measures it for you.
  4. Check the picture. Thin lines show the logo. The shaded band is the clear space.
  5. Download the guide. Put the PNG or SVG in your brand guidelines. Copy the rule as text too.

Which rule should I pick?

Height of a letter

This is the classic rule. It grows and shrinks with the logo, so it is right at any size. Many designers use a capital letter, or a part of the logo mark. If the space looks small, try 2x.

Percent

Use this when the logo has no letters, or when the letters join up. 25% of the logo height is a good place to start. Then look at it next to real text and photos, and change it if it feels tight.

There is no one right number. Pick one that works, write it down, and use it every time.

Three common mistakes

  • Measuring the file, not the logo. Many files have empty edges. This tool measures only what you can see.
  • Different rules for each file. Keep the same rule for the mark, the full logo and the small logo.
  • Writing a rule nobody sees. A rule in a PDF gets lost. Put the picture where your team makes things.

Straight answers.

What is logo clear space?

It is the empty area you keep around a logo. No text, image or edge goes inside it, so the logo stays easy to see.

How much clear space should a logo have?

A good start is the height of one letter in the logo, on all four sides. If the logo has no letters, start with 25% of its height. Then test it next to real text and photos.

Is my logo uploaded?

No. The tool reads the file in your browser. Nothing is sent to me or anyone else. You can turn off your internet after the page loads and it still works.

Which files can I add?

SVG and PNG, up to 20 MB. SVG is best, because the SVG guide stays sharp at any size. The tool removes scripts from an SVG before it uses it.

Why does the letter pick the wrong shape?

The tool looks for shapes that do not touch. Script logos and joined letters count as one shape. In that case move the slider, or pick Percent.

Can I use the guide in my brand guidelines?

Yes. The guide is yours and carries no mark from me. The SVG is a normal vector file, but I have not tested it in every design app, so check it in yours.
